I"ve traveled the world twice over, Met the famous; saints and sinners, Poets and artists, kings and queens, Old stars and hopeful beginners, I"ve been where no-one"s been before, Learned secrets from writers and cooks. All with one library ticket. To the wonderful world of books (anonymous).   Contrastingly to Gloria Naylor, I consider the written word superior to that of the spoken. The spoken word lingers for a moment, but the written word goes on in eternity in the confines of a paper with the ability to be reproduced numbers of time and be spread to countless of minds. Reading introduces new worlds, gives knowledge, and gives infinite possibilities. But unfortunately many view it as a drag, they have gained the wrong perception of literacy.
The psyche of individuals in this age, where technology rules and the only way of producing a high-quality life is through reading through numerous of books, toward reading is repulsive. This revolting view towards reading probably originated from institutions. Schools have twisted the mind of an individual to read and think a certain way. When I was in the early stages of my schooling, I remember an instance were I was introduced to the frustrations of reading. I was nine years old and I had just moved to the U.S. and did not know a great deal of English. It was my first day in an English speaking school and immediately when I entered I was forced into a group to read an article. I tried my best and read, but the fear of a mispronounced   word, or of a goofy accent rushed into my mind. My group members applauded me, this instilled confidence into me. When the teacher asked for a volunteer to read a section of the article, my hand shot straight up in the air. I no longer remembered that I was a native speaker, that I still had noticeable traces of my Spanish accent. I stumbled upon a word that I did not know how to pronounce, so I tried my best.
