The excitement, the stress, the laughs and the cries, all of these things are what lies on the ice, the endurance and the power push you to your limit, the competition strives you to do your absolute best. Who you are on the ice and as a team shows, to everyone who cheers and supports you.
The stage before tryouts is the conditioning camp. This is where everyone gets warmed up for the big week ahead of giving all you got to impress the coaches enough to earn a spot on the team. Conditioning camp helped to get me ready for the tryouts and gave me an idea of what the coaches wanted to see. I learned some plays, some moves, a little more about motive and what it takes to play high level hockey. I met alot of the girls and created new bonds with players that could help me push myself to be better for the future.
Awaking at 7:30 a.m., I prepare for a long day. I drive with my mom to the tryouts at the Centennial Arena in Okotokes. My stomach starts turning circles as I approach the door. I felt like I was being spun around thousands of times. Through this door is an arena that I could call my home arena, if the tryout goes well.
As time goes on and we begin the try out, the tension rises on the bench. Players are flying everywhere. Everyone is playing their best in hopes of being picked for the team. During the 5 hour tryout, everyone sweats, Girls are getting tired but still push themselves to the limit. It is hard to tell just who is nervous because everyone is trying to show no fear out there, because we all no that whoever looks scared is targeted to be weak.
After the cool down, running around the upper part of the arena and stretching, it is time to leave this place. The place that appeared to be extremely frightening at first turned out to be an extremely fun place in the end. Walking out of the doors, I sigh in relief knowing that what I just experienced was much better than I thought it would be. After 5 long hours of working hard and...
