Essay A
“What do you want to be when you grow up?” This is a question that is often asked by many to younger children. The real question that we should be asking is not �what’ you will be, but rather �who’ you will be or �who’ you want to be. At the University of Colorado at Boulder I hope to become the person �who’ I want to be. I want to mature into and become a respectful and socially engaged citizen, whose profession involves helping others.
Respect, and more specifically the lack thereof, has become an increasing problem in our society. I believe that many people have begun to lose their sense of respect, especially children, and it damages our communities as a whole. Wherever I go, I make every attempt to ensure that everyone I come across receives the respect they deserve. Even small things, such as holding the door open for someone, or calling my elders �sir’ and �m’am’ helps to preserve and promote the dignity that we all inherently deserve as human beings. I hope that by becoming a student at the University of Colorado, I can continue to expand my understanding of the world and become a member of society that people will look upon as a respectful, well informed and knowledgeablecitizen. One of my goals is once my time on this earth has run out, that I’ve left this world in a little better shape than when I had entered it.
Helping people has always been something that I loved to do ever since I was a kid. On countless occasions friends and co-workers have asked for my help and I love to give it. I appreciate the feeling of having helped someone solve their problems; it really is one of the greatest feelings ever which explains the professional field I wish to enter. After graduating from CU, I want to enter the field of integrated physiology. I am not certain where my focus will lie just yet; however, I know I want to help people.
