I believe that marijuana should not be legalized. There are many reason on to why it shouldn’t be legalized but on of the more important reasons are that the chemicals in marijuana such as cannabinoids and THC have an effect on the memory and emotions of a person’s central nervous system. It effects the central nervous system by attaching to the brains neurons which then causes an interference between the brain and the nervous system.
Another effect of marijuana is when a person has a high does of marijuana it triggers short term memory loss. “Marijuana"s damage to short-term memory occurs because THC alters the way in which information is processed by the hippocampus, a brain area responsible for memory formation.” In other words when the THC hits the memory part of the brain or the hippocampus it causes memory loss.
People who want it legalized could say legalizing something that is known for causing people to have a memory loss and lung cancer doesn’t seem to be that bad of a thing to do considering that cigarettes are legal and they also cause lung cancer but it has never been noted for memory loss. So the only thing that is keeping marijuana from not being a cigarette is that it has THC instead of having nicotine. Cigarette’s are not the only thing that is bad for your health that you can buy legally, you can also purchase alcohol which in known for corroding at your liver.
Legalizing marijuana would not be the smartest thing for the United States to do. Yes there will be an awful lot of people who disagree with me about legalizing marijuana, but do we really want to legalize another thing that in the short run seems fine but twenty years from now you can even remember what you had for breakfast? If so go ahead and legalize it but if not keep it illegal and try to turn the United States into a much healthier country.
